FAQ

Most people interested in building or renovating a home have the same questions and concerns. Feel free to browse these questions below, or contact us directly. We're happy to help!
Do you provide a warranty?
Yes, our all inclusive warranty incorporates the National Association of Home Builders “NAHB” residential performance guidelines which provides one of the highest level of standards throughout all aspects of custom home construction. Review the NAHB's guidelines to compare what we offer to other builders.
Can you help me find a lot or a tear down house?
Yes. Fortunately we learn about available or upcoming homes since we are approached continuously by homeowners, agents, estate attorneys, etc looking to sell their homes and lots for a variety of reasons. Most of our land/lot purchases are “off-market” transactions. We encourage you to set up a meeting so we can understand what area and size lot you are looking to purchase. That way we can be on the look-out for a good match for you.
How does financing work?
With our unique New Home Financing Program, we purchase the lot on your behalf and construct your custom home. You provide only an initial deposit, then make no more cash outlays until closing at the completion of construction. In the event you wish to provide your own construction financing, we are happy to recommend our partner lenders or work work directly with your lender to provide the documentation they will need to get approval for your loan.
What does your pricing include?
Our prices include the entire cost of design, permitting, demolition and construction. This covers all demolition fees for the existing structure, design and engineering fees, site work, and construction of the house. The homeowner will be responsible for insurance, utilities, and real estate taxes if the homeowner owns the land prior to construction completion. Some custom home builders exclude permitting, site work and demolition from their quoted pricing. Be sure you are comparing apples to apples when evaluating which custom home builder would be best for you.
Do you have any homes available to walk through?
Yes you can visit one of our open houses or contact us directly to schedule a private tour of one of our homes.
What will I need to do before moving into my new home?
Your house will be ready to move into when Tradition Homes is finished building. The only thing you will be required to do is to arrange for telephone, internet, and television service. All other utilities will be connected.
When will I know what my custom house will cost?
Generally we can provide the cost of building one of our model homes on your lot within 1-2 business days. Once we understand any changes or modifications to our model we can finalize our quote. In the case of custom designs, pricing takes slightly longer but less than 30 days. We try and provide as much guidance up front so you can plan properly. We provide pricing throughout the design phase to ensure we are creating a home that will meet not only your needs/desires but also your budget.
Is it less expensive to build a custom home or buy a new home?
There are so many variables involved in building a custom home (such as the cost of the land, size of house, etc.) that can affect the cost, but overall the expenses end up being within the same range.
How long does it take to complete a custom home?
From the start of design to the completion of the home, it is generally nine to twelve months. This is made up of three phases: design (1-2 months), permitting (2 months) and construction (6 months).
I own my house now– can you build on my lot?
Yes, as a custom home builder we frequently build on homeowners' existing lots.
How much will it cost to build my house?
Generally our homes cost between $160 and $175 per square foot, and start in the $700,000 range.
Can I design my house from scratch?
Yes, we are happy to design a home especially for you and your family's needs. Our href="http://builtbytradition.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/DesignBuildServices.pdf" target="_blank">design build process makes it easy to go from design to construction.
Do you have model homes?
Yes, we have about a dozen popular models. These can be modified to your tastes (ie changing exterior look or moving walls/rearranging the floorplan) and expedited quickly for permit and construction. See all our models here.
Who builds the houses you design?
Tradition Homes is a licensed Class A Building Contractor. We build everything we design, which allows projects to move seamlessly from design to construction, and eliminates potential finger pointing between a separate architect and contractor.

My only reservation is I don't think I can adequately express how happy we are with this house.  Just last night we were sitting on the front porch and commented how much we liked the ceiling fan . . . observing that it was just another of those extras that you added to the house.  The longer we live here, the more we notice things that Tradition did to make it an exceptional house.  In fact, friends who have built custom homes have observed things like the incredibly beautiful woodworking and high quality fixtures that aren't normally found in spec homes.  It has become clear to us that Tradition builds its homes with quality and longevity in mind.  Working with the Tradition Homes team is another added bonus. I could go on and on with all the pleasant surprises that we've encountered since moving in . . . THANK YOU.
